Q: Why must the Redeemer be truly God?
A: That because of his divine nature his obedience and suffering would be perfect and effective; and also that he would be able to bear the righteous anger of God against sin and yet overcome death.
Read 1 Peter 2:12-17 as a group.
Have you ever been in a fight? What did it look like? How did you fight?
In what way are Christians in a fight as they live out their calling in a world they do not belong?
What is a Christian’s fight really against? See Ephesians 6:12.
Is the lost, unbelieving world your enemy or the object of your rescue mission? Explain.
Looking at verse 12, how does Peter urge Christians to (in part) fulfill their mission of proclaiming the excellencies of their Savior?
Does the fact that God is now their King, mean that Christians should disregard the authority of earthly rulers? Explain. How do verses 13-17 support your answer?
Does being subject to earthly authorities mean absolute obedience? What are exceptions? Explain and use Scripture to support your answer.
What is “the day of visitation?” Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Explain.
How will your life lead other people to give glory to God on the day of Christ’s return?
